Tryout

I made a lot of changes in this essay. Research for the project was tricky, and it was stressful trying to find credible sources. I found comfort in using the UA-PTC database; however, they didn’t have much for me. I felt the most successful with my dialectic thinking between Kirp and Dweck. Proofreading wasn’t bad at all. I only had to make a few corrections. During peer review, a classmate gave me some very important information that I had completely left out. I felt good about adding that information, and I felt great about turning in this essay. I hope you enjoy it.

Rhetorical Analysis of an Ad

I made a lot of changes in this essay. Research for the project was tricky, and it was stressful trying to find credible sources. I found comfort in using the UA-PTC database; however, they didn’t have much for me. I felt the most successful with my dialectic thinking between Kirp and Dweck. Proofreading wasn’t bad at all. I only had to make a few corrections. During peer review, a classmate gave me some very important information that I had completely left out. I felt good about adding that information, and I felt great about turning in this essay. I hope you enjoy it.

Vaping

Have you ever saw a young group of teens hanging around and you see them blowing smoke? That is most likely vaping. CBS News states “5.2 million young users use e-cigarettes”. It is so common nowadays to see teens vaping. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration used what they know with generation Z and produced an ad about how vaping is bad for you. In this ad, they directed their attention towards young teens because of how common it is with their age to participate in vaping.

The ad I choose, has a lot of details and emotions attached to it. The ad makes young people think something is seriously wrong with vaping. In the image it used was a slogan they created, it says “You may not be into chemistry, but if you vape, chemistry may be very into you.” In the image, it shows a type of chemical to show you how bad it is for you. It is a bright green/yellow to attract the audience’s eye. The size that the words are in is a big font. I assume they did that so it would be big enough to catch the readers attention. The Drug and Food Administration arranged the words to be above the picture so that they would see it, then their eyes would follow directly below and see the bright yellow/green image of the chemical. In smaller writing, they wrote, “Vaping can expose you to carcinogens like formaldehyde, and other toxic chemicals that can cause lung damage.” They said this because once they attracted the reader’s attention, they hoped they would read the fine print underneath to learn more about how bad vaping is bad for you.

This ads claim is that vaping is bad for you. Telling you that chemicals is being put into you when doing so, supports the ad. Vape Danger says “In recent years, scientists have found various chemicals and substances in vape products that may be dangerous to human health. These include flavoring chemicals like diacetyl, heavy metal particles, compounds like formaldehyde, and ultrafine particles.” These chemicals can be very harmful to ones body. Diacetyl is only harmful to the lungs. It does irreversible damage. It is linked to popcorn lungs, meaning vaping can hurt your lungs and make them look like popcorn. Vape Danger also states “Ultrafine particles are tiny clusters of matter found in the surrounding air, such as water droplets, dirt, and toxic chemicals emitted from vape products. Ultrafine particles are created as the vape device heats up. If inhaled, ultrafine particles can enter the lungs and even the bloodstream. From there, these particles can harm the lungs and heart.” The chemicals vaping puts into you is no joke. It can be very harmful to your body and it can affect your body very negatively and will be long term.

The audience the Food and Drug Administration targeted was Gen Z. I believe they choose them because of how easy it is for them to get ahold of it and start vaping. For example, when I was in high school, I cannot even tell you how many older kids offered to get me a vape or some type of nicotine. I was always a good kid, so I never even knew what a vape was until my aunt started doing it to get herself off of cigarettes. I think Gen Z is more likely to start vaping because they are more attracted to it. I believe some people do it just because they think it is cool. Little do they know that it is slowly killing them. I think that Generation Z is an easy target to vaping so they thought they would be an easy target to persuade to stop vaping because it is bad for them.

The setting of the ad is not certain. But if I had to take a pick, I would say the ad is placed in a school. Being placed in a school, it would be likely that teens would see it around the halls and hopefully catch their attention and bring them to read it. I think putting up this ad at school would be a smart setting because it makes it easier for a teen to see this ad. If it were placed at a different setting. I don’t think they would see it. For example, if they were out with their friends at the movies and it was on the wall outside, they honestly would not look at it. They would not even care to glance over at it. I believe the setting they choose was a good place for it.
